Marketing Intern

The Aspen Music Festival and School—one of the world’s leading classical music institutions, located in the spectacular Rocky Mountain setting of Aspen, Colorado—seeks two (2) Marketing Interns to join its marketing department for the summer 2019 season.

This position is most suited for someone with a knack for writing and/or editing, and who is interested in learning about the many steps that go into creating and distributing in-house publications, such as posters, ads, flyers, and more. This position will also help maintain the AMFS website’s calendar of events and have the opportunity to pitch ideas and create content for AMFS social media accounts throughout the summer.

Other responsibilities of the internship include the management and daily operations of sales for AMFS merchandise from a small on-site, open-air shop/kiosk, which is open during every concert in the main Benedict Music Tent venue. Duties include managing the merchandise, overseeing the volunteer staff, running the register, organizing storage, and tracking sales. Intern schedules will be split between managing the kiosk and working in the office.


  • Proofread and fact-checking weekly marketing publications
  • Draft copy for select advertising opportunities
  • Monitor all media coverage and coordinate with press
  • Distribute event posters, flyers, and other collateral to the AMFS’s main venues as needed, maintain the AMFS materials table at our main venue
  • Help maintain the AMFS website, particularly its events calendar
  • Brainstorm, implement, and monitor content opportunities for the AMFS social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
  • Responsible for the intake and outflow of merchandise and funds
  • Oversee volunteer staff who help customers at the kiosk
  • Organize inventory and storage
  • Liaise with full-time staff and make recommendations to optimize sales



  • Energetic and team-oriented attitude, with an exceptional eye for detail
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills
  • Experience using a website content management system is not required but is highly preferred, as is knowledge of using Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram for professional purposes (as opposed to personal use)
  • Applicants must work well under pressure and be able to handle multiple simultaneous deadlines


  • Attention to detail and accuracy with daily cashing out procedures
  • Comfortable in leadership role
  • Good people skills and ability to manage team
  • Experience with a point of sales register


  • Schedule flexibility is essential; evenings and weekends required during the eight-week summer Festival and School season
  • Background in (or currently studying) communications, journalism, public relations, arts marketing, or a related field with experience in retail sales and management
  • Professional conduct, dress, and appearance are expected at all times
  • Applicants MUST have a valid driver's license and the use of their own vehicle while in Aspen
