Careers At Aspen Music Festival

Resident Supervisor

Department: Student Services
Location: Aspen, CO

The four Resident Supervisors (RSís) for the Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) work in conjunction with the Resident Director and the Office of Student Services to create a sense of community in the residential facilities. Resident Supervisors report to, and are responsible for, assisting the Director in overseeing the housing registration process, recommending and facilitating changes within the residence halls, administering disciplinary action to students as necessary and helping supervise the Resident Assistant staff. Resident Supervisors are expected to display a high degree of maturity and act as role models for students. It is anticipated that at least one of the appointed supervisors will have a special interest in working with high school age students.

The Student Information Office, located in the Marolt facility, is the primary information hub of the AMFS residence halls. All Resident Supervisors share responsibility for organizing and staffing the office. These office responsibilities include, but are not limited to, tracking daily housing activity and keeping posted information (e.g., emergency information, job listings, orchestra assignments, School news) accurate, timely, and readily available. Resident Supervisors will be expected to work 15 hours per week in the office, supervise two to three nightly room checks for under-age students per week, be on call two days per week, and will have two days off per week (all subject to change at the discretion of the Director).

Counseling and nurturing the students is an important aspect of the Resident Supervisor position. RSís live in private rooms/apartments in the residence halls and are expected to be highly visible and accessible to students. RSís also work with the Dean in conjunction with the School administration and/or the School health care provider in response to emergency situations that may arise.

Resident Supervisors are required to participate in weekly residence life staff meetings to determine weekly schedules, share information, plan and organize student activities, and participate in periodic workshops and training sessions and be available to assist any member from the Office of Student Services.

Applicants must be 21 years of age as of June 13, 2018. The ideal candidate should have at least one year of residence life experience but applicants who have the desired set of skills in related fields will be considered. Excellent communication and organizational skills, and a desire to nurture students within an arts environment is required.
