Lighting Supervisor/Event Technician

Aspen Music Festival and School – Lighting Supervisor / Event Tech  

The Lighting Supervisor/Event Tech position is a unique opportunity with the Aspen Music Festival & School. The position is a leadership position that is under the supervision of the Production Manager at the Benedict Music Tent (2,050 seats) and Harris Concert Hall (500 seats). This position is perfect for a candidate that is both an experienced theatrical electrician as well as someone interested in event production.

Lighting Supervisor:

  • Maintain lighting plots in three spaces: Benedict Music Tent, Harris Concert Hall and Entertainment Tent. Includes dimmer/channel management, dimmer check, lamp and instrument repairs and focus touchups.
  • Minor programming throughout the season.
  • Possibility of a few design assignments throughout the season.
  • Report to Production Manager about crew needs for work calls and inventory needs.
  • Must also possess strengths in house/facility electrics as typical duties also include frequent involvement in load-ins involving tying in to house power, backline duties, running power and electrics safely and efficiently to external venues

Event Tech:

  • Maintain consistent communication between the Development Department, Education and Outreach Department and the Operations Department about production needs for each event in the Entertainment Tent.
  • Help guide and inform your event manager about design options and abilities for each specific event
  • Report to production manager about crew needs for work calls
  • Supervise all events
  • Depending on week to week work load this position will occasionally assist the Meadows production team as crew for productions.

Qualifications: Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in lighting or electrics or significant experience in that field. Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, guest artists, faculty, and student performers, and in a few cases designers, and a proven ability to work well with others. Candidates also must be independently motivated, possess a sense of humor, comfortable working in catwalks/at heights, be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb stairs and ladders comfortably. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license for the summer of 2018.  A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

Duration: Early June through Late August, exact dates negotiable

Compensation: Weekly salary plus seasonal housing
