Orchestra Librarian 

The Aspen Music Festival and School seeks five seasonal Orchestra Librarians, each assigned to one of the large performing ensembles. These positions report to the Head Librarian and the Director of Operations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, bow, and mark parts as necessary in consultation with the Head Librarian, guest conductors, concertmasters, and faculty. Prepare practice parts.
  • Organize folders for orchestra personnel, distribute parts to musicians, and track outstanding parts to ensure all are returned at the end of each concert week.
  • Set out folders 30-45 minutes prior to rehearsals and concerts.  Assist production crew with music shifts during stage changes at both rehearsal and concert services.
  • Attend all rehearsals and concerts for the assigned ensemble(s.)
  • Staff the music library during open hours.
  • Work closely and effectively with guest artists, faculty members, students, and staff.
  • At the discretion of the Head Librarian, work with publishers to ensure music materials are ordered, complete, fully prepared, and appropriately accessible to the ensemble members and conductor.
  • Other related duties as necessary.

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 2 years music library experience required.
  • Knowledge of classical music and opera and ability to read music required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and knowledge of computers (Microsoft products) and information technology.  Experience with ArtsVision is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided as necessary. 
  • A demonstrated strong background in interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in independent work and must be independently motivated.  A sense of humor is a must. 
  • It is beneficial for candidates to have access to a vehicle and a valid driverís license for the summer of 2019. A DMV background check will be conducted for candidates hired.  
  • Must be able to climb ladders to access music and to lift and distribute heavy boxes of music (under 50 lbs.) 

Compensation: 

Weekly salary plus summer housing in Aspen.

June 4 - August 20, 2019
