Aspen Music Festival and School – Aspen Opera Center - Costume Assistant 

The Costume Assistant works under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager and other Aspen Opera Center staff supporting the costumes department. These positions include assisting in the build and fitting of costumes for an eight-week season consisting of two opera productions and weekly opera scenes master classes. The Costume Assistant also works backstage during the run of each opera serving as wardrobe run crew to include hair and makeup duties as needed. Typical duties include the execution of basic patterning and draping as well as sewing of mock-up and finished costumes under the supervision of the Costume Shop Manager from notes given by the designer and/or director.

Qualifications: Currently pursing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theater with an emphasis in costume design. Previous sewing experience in a theatrical setting, required. Ideal candidates will also have experience in theatrical hair and makeup. Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others. Candidates also must be independently motivated, possess a sense of humor, be able to lift up to 40 lbs. and climb stairs and ladders comfortably. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferable for the summer of 2018. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired.

Duration: June 11 - August 22, 2018

Compensation: Hourly wage plus seasonal housing
