Aspen Music Festival and School – Aspen Opera Center – Properties Assistant 

The Properties Assistant works under the supervision of the Properties Master and provides assistance with the scenic department as needed. This position includes assisting in the planning, construction, acquisition, and painting of props based on the specific needs of two mainstage productions, weekly opera scenes master classes, and special orchestral projects as required. Carpentry and painting of props and some scenery may also be required, as well as assisting with load in and load out for the Aspen Opera Center. Additionally, this position may involve serving on the run crew for any or all productions. 

Qualifications: Currently pursuing or graduated with a BA/BFA in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in props, scenic construction, or scenic design. Previous props experience, required. Candidates must have sensitivity to the needs of staff, designers, guest artists, faculty, and student performers and a proven ability to work well with others. Candidates also must be independently motivated, possess a sense of humor, be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and climb stairs and ladders comfortably. Additionally, candidates must have a valid driver’s license for the summer of 2018 and access to a personal vehicle is preferred. A DMV check will be conducted for the candidate hired. 

Duration: June 11 - August 22, 2018 

Compensation: Hourly wage plus seasonal housing
